Just like people, dogs get allergies too. Certain plants can affect different dogs in different ways. As dogs usually have there nose to the ground (to smell and this is where most, if not all our plants are! ) they go head first into whatever plants are in their way. Finding out what plants in your garden are causing a allergic reaction in your dog, can be daunting. This is why we have put together a short list of 10 of the most common Tropical plants that can cause allergic reactions to dogs and are found here in the Top End.
The list is endless as you can image and I guess it depends on how sensitive your dog is to various plant species. In the list we have compiled, we have only give the genus name, such as Callistemon or Philodendron and not the cultivar name. This is because there are so many plant species out there we would never be able to cover them all.
3. Devil’s ivy (Epipremnum)
6. Oleander (Nerium oleander)
7. Strelitzias Bird of Paradise
9. Caladium bicolor
